Training Courses

  • Driving 101

    This class starts with understanding several different 4-wheel drive systems and suspension work, which provides the user the education needed in getting the vehicle to perform off-road. The training is conducted in both classroom and in the field, utilizing a variety of terrain to experience first hand, how to drive properly. Students will leave the course with a foundational understanding of their vehicles’ capabilities and limitations, while being able to drive with vehicle sympathy to avoid mechanical damage.

  • Recovery 101

    Recovery 101 is another foundational course in which the students are introduced to types of recovery equipment, how they are used and safely rigged. Topics include scene assessment, basic recovery calculations, gear selection for the recovery, maintenance and inspection of equipment. The class will provide an overview of how to safely asses a recovery situation, develop recovery plan of action and safely put that plan into action, using the proper recovery equipment.

  • Advanced Recovery

    Advanced recovery: This course provides a very hands-on approach designed to challenge the student to utilize the skills learned in the 101 class by way of technical demonstrations and scenario based practical exercises. Students will conduct recovery assessments and perform recovery operations with various recovery equipment and vehicles. Students will walk instructors though each recovery and explain their plan of action, and given the opportunity to implement it.

  • Field Repair

    This course provides a general overview of common breakages on the trail that one would see while conducting long range off-grid adventures. Student will learn various types of products that they can carry, both specific and general, on their vehicle that will allow them to make expedient field repairs to get their vehicle back up and running, either to get off the trail for further repairs, or continue on the adventure. Some topics covered: tire repair, minor electrical repair, expedient field repairs for hoses, radiators, oil pans, de-beaded tires, etc. Useful tools and common repair parts to make apart of your logistics package for your trip.

  • Custom Course

    West Virginia Overland LLC can adjust our programs of instruction to include multiple topics of combinations. Customers requesting customs courses discuss with our staff what combination of coursework they would like to cover both in-depth to meet each customer’s unique requirements.
